Campus and Community Safety

The Division of Public Safety (DPS) continues to provide comprehensive safety and security services on a 24x7 basis for all areas comprising the Penn Patrol Zone, which includes 30th Street to 43rd Street on the east-west border and Market Street to Baltimore Avenue on the north-south border. You may reach DPS at any time by calling the PennComm emergency communications center at 215-573-3333. Penn Police and Allied Universal security officer staffing levels remain consistent.

Walking Escorts: The Walking Escort Services remain fully available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Public Safety Security Officers will walk with you anywhere in the Penn Patrol Zone, which extends between 30th and 43rd Streets, and Market to Baltimore Avenue – 24/7. It also extends west to 50th Street, and north/south from Spring Garden to Woodland Avenue, between 10 a.m. and 12 a.m. via the University’s partnership with the University City District Ambassador Program.

  • SOCIALLY DISTANCED WALKS: All officers will be wearing protective facial masks. They will also have visible photo identification badges which you can always ask to check before proceeding with the walk. The officer will maintain a safe distance during the walk for your and their protection.
  • How to Request a Walking Escort:  Ask any Public Safety Officer on patrol or inside a building; call 215-898-WALK (9255) (or 511 from a campus phone); or use the blue-light phones located on and off Penn's campus.

Special Checks: Students, faculty and staff who live in the patrol zone are encouraged to Register their Residence with Public Safety for Special Checks if they are away from their residences during this COVID-19 period.  Be sure to list your contact information, other occupants, landlord if applicable, and someone other than a landlord with access or a key to the property.

  • Penn Police will periodically check the exterior of registered properties, for signs of criminal activity or security breaches. Special checks cannot be provided for interior areas of apartment complexes.
  • Please ensure that all doors and windows are closed and locked , and arrange for packages to be delivered during your absence from the area .
